Founded in 1980 at a major meeting attended by some 350 Algonquins, the Council is officially made up of five Band Chiefs, two representatives of the Council of Elders and one representative of the Council of Trappers ... The villages forming the Algonquin Council are Témiscamingue, Grand-Lac-Victoria, Winneway, Lac-Simon and Pikogan. However, all nine villages obtain the same services from the Algonquin Council whose first mandate is to preserve the Algonquin culture and way of life. Elections are held every two years.
